The Salvation Army will begin taking applications for its 2016 Back-to-School Assistance Program today, Tuesday, July 19 through Friday, July 22. Families seeking assistance for the upcoming school year can apply at The Salvation Army’s main office located at 1707 West Chestnut Expressway.
“We want to make sure those who will need assistance know where they can come for help,” Judy Mills, Springfield Corps Officer said. “We anticipate helping nearly 1,100 children this year through our program.”
Assistance sign-up will take place from 9:30a.m. to 3:30p.m. daily and families should bring with them a photo ID, social security cards for everyone in the household, and a current piece of mail.
Each year, The Salvation Army helps hundreds of local children by providing them with basic school supplies, backpacks, shoes and clothing.
The Salvation Army is also seeking donations and volunteers to help with the back-to-school program. School supplies such as backpacks, notebooks, binder, crayons and folders can be dropped off anytime at The Salvation Army located at 1707 W. Chestnut Expressway.
