Mayor Ken McClure will declare May 13-19 as Salvation Army week in the City of Springfield on Monday, May 16 on behalf of Mayor Bob Stephens. The ceremony will take on at 10:00a.m. at The Salvation Army Thrift Store located at 1737 S. Campbell Avenue.
“National Salvation Army week is a time of year when we can let the community know outside of Christmas that we are here year-round to assist those in need,” said Major Mike Mills, Corps Officer.
Originally set forth by President Dwight Eisenhower in 1954, National Salvation Army week is a way recognize the programs and services offered across the country year-round. President Eishenhower said, “Among Americans, The Salvation Army has long been a symbol of wholehearted dedication to the cause of brotherhood. …the men and women of The Salvation Army have won the respect of all.”
In addition, from 5:00pm. To 8:00p.m. tonight, May 15, the Chick-fil-a on Sunshine and Campbell will donate 20% of our order total to The Salvation Army when you mention it when ordering.
Throughout the week The Salvation Army will highlight some of the programs offered including Emergency Disaster Service and Social Services.
