Mayor Ken McClure will be joining The Salvation Army to help those in need this Christmas by serving as the 2017 Salvation Army Tree of Lights Chairman. As Chairman for the 2017 Tree of Lights Campaign, Mayor McClure will assist in raising community support and awareness for The Salvation Army, its programs, and services.
“It is a profound honor to serve as the 2017 Tree of Lights Campaign Chairman. The Salvation Army and its ministry have long held a very special place in my heart,” said Mayor Ken McClure. “My Aunt Margaret, who passed away in 1969, was a long-time social worker for the Salvation Army. I am honored to serve this year in her memory.”
Each year The Salvation Army selects a Tree of Lights Chairman or Co-Chairs to help promote giving during the Christmas season and to highlight the local programs and services that are offered year round. The Tree of Light Campaign is The Salvation Army’s largest annual fundraiser, with nearly one-third of their annual operating budget being raised during the campaign.
“We are blessed to live in such a giving community that supports us, both the general public and our local leaders,” said Major Butch Frost, Corps Officer. “We hope through this campaign we cannot only raise much needed funds, but also let people know how their donations are used to help those most in need right here in the Ozarks.”
In addition to his role as Mayor, Mayor McClure is an active community member having served on numerous boards and commissions including Springfield Symphony Orchestra, Chamber of Commerce and United Way to name a few. He looks forward to giving back to the community during this holiday season.
