The Salvation Army in Springfield, MO is seeking volunteers who are willing to be trained for Emergency Disaster Services. On Saturday, September 30, 2017, The Salvation Army will be offering a Disaster Food Service and Canteen Operations course at their main office at 1707 West Chestnut Expressway.
“In light of recent events, we have become more aware of our own need to ensure we can respond in the event of a local disaster,” said Major Butch Frost, Corps Officer. “We have the tools available to respond to a disaster, but we are in need of people willing to help us out during such events.”
Prior to the classroom course this Saturday, volunteers will need to go online and register at www.disaster.salvationarmy.org. Once volunteers create an account, online courses will become available. It is ideal for volunteers have completed the “Introduction to EDS” course prior to Saturday.
The Disaster Food Service and Canteen Operations course will begin at 8:00a.m on Saturday and end at 5:00p.m. Lunch will be provided. This course is designed as the starting point for any disaster worker who wishes to be a part of disaster food service operations.
This course is one of several courses required for volunteers to be deployed during a disaster. Additional information will be available at the training; including additional volunteer opportunities for local weather related emergencies.
