The Salvation Army of Springfield will be providing Christmas assistance to residents of Christian and Greene County. Distribution of assistance is happening today, December 20 from 9:00a.m. to 700p.m. and tomorrow, December 21 from 9:00a.m.to 12:00p.m. Additional volunteers are still needed for both days.
The Salvation Army’s Christmas Assistance Program provides individuals and families living in Greene or Christian County with food, toys, and winter accessories each holiday season. This year 1,000 families will be receiving assistance. Distribution is taking place at The Salvation Army located at 1707 West Chestnut Expressway.
According to U.S. Census Bureau data, 15.9 percent of Missouri residents live in poverty. “The Salvation Army strives to assist struggling families during the holiday season so that all community members can enjoy the season, regardless of their financial situation.” Major Mike Mills, Corps Officer, said.
