The Salvation Army is seeking donations and volunteers to help with its 2107 Back-to-School Assistance program. A record number of children have signed-up to receive assistance from The Salvation Army and additional clothing and school supplies are needed.
“We have had over 1,200 children sign up to receive assistance,” Major Mike Mills, Springfield Corps Officer said. “That is an increase of nearly 400 children over last year, meaning we need additional donations in order to ensure these kids are ready for school.”
The Salvation Army’s greatest needs include new backpacks, pencils, three ring binders, and brad folders. New or gently used clothing items are also critical as children receive a voucher to receive clothing items from The Salvation Army Thrift Store in addition to basic school supplies. Monetary donations are also greatly appreciated.
Volunteers are needed to help with the sorting, packing and distribution of school supplies. Volunteer dates are Friday, August 4 from 10:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. and on August 7 from 9:00a.m. to 6:00p.m. To sign-up to volunteer, please call 417-862-5509 ext. 116.
Donations can be brought by or mailed to The Salvation Army’s main office located at 1707 West Chestnut Expressway in Springfield, MO.
