The last day to sign up for back-to-school assistance with The Salvation Army is Friday, July 28. Families seeking assistance for the upcoming school year can apply at The Salvation Army’s main office located at 1707 West Chestnut Expressway.
“We just want to remind everyone that Friday is the last day for sign-up so no child is left out,” Major Mike Mills, Springfield Corps Officer said.
Families can come from 9:30a.m. to 3:30p.m. and should bring with them a photo ID, social security cards for everyone in the household, and a current piece of mail.
Each year, The Salvation Army helps hundreds of local children by providing them with basic school supplies, backpacks, shoes and clothing. This year, they anticipate helping more than 1,100 children.
The Salvation Army is also seeking donations and volunteers to help with the back-to-school program. New or gently used clothing and school supplies such as backpacks, notebooks, binder, crayons and folders can be dropped off anytime at The Salvation Army located at 1707 W. Chestnut Expressway.
