The Salvation Army in Springfield, MO is activating their Emergency Overnight Warming Center tonight, Sunday, December 31 due to predicted extreme cold. Local residents in need are encouraged to come to its Warming Center located at 1707 West Chestnut Expressway in Springfield. The warming center will be available to men, women and families.
“We have been in contact with area partners and authorities over the last few days to make sure everyone is safe and we have been on standby if additional shelter space was needed,” said Major Butch Frost, Corps Officer. “We are glad to be able to serve the homeless once again this year in this way. The safety of everyone in our community is one of our top priorities.”
The Salvation Army’s Warming Center will be open tonight from 7:00p.m. to 7:00a.m. Hot drinks, beds and other necessities will be provided. In addition, their Emergency Disaster Canteen would be available, if needed, to those whom decide they do not want to come to a warming center by providing warm drinks, extra blankets, and other necessities. This Emergency Disaster Unit could be available to hover near the homeless camps.
