The Salvation Army Emergency Overnight Warming Center will be open tonight, Friday, January 6 and Saturday, January 7 due to predicted extreme cold. Local residents in need are encouraged to come to its Warming Center located at 1707 West Chestnut Expressway in Springfield.
“These will be the fourth and fifth nights we are open already this year,” said Major Mike Mills, Corps Officer. “We are glad to be able to be here for people in need and will continue to monitor the weather.”
The Salvation Army’s Warming Center will be open tonight and tomorrow night from 7:00p.m. to 7:30a.m. The Warming Center opens when the National Weather Service predicts the wind chill will reach 14° F or below.
Over the last previous three nights 90 individuals have sought shelter at The Salvation Army’s Overnight Warming Center, 63 unduplicated.
