The Salvation Army will be taking 125 children on a back-to-school shopping spree at Target this Friday, August 5 at 9:00a.m. Children will receive a $100 gift card to purchase new school clothing.
“We are pleased we can provide a little something extra to these children,” Mike Mills, Springfield Corps Officer said. “This could be the only experience these children have like this.”
Children will be partnered with a volunteer from the community that will take them through the store to pick out clothing. Participants include the Springfield Police Department, United Way of the Ozarks, Mid-Missouri Bank, Springfield News-Leader, and Fox 5. Louie with the Springfield Cardinals will also make a special appearance.
Children were randomly selected out of the nearly 1,000 students who signed up to receive assistance through the Back-to-School Assistance Program. Families needing assistance signed-up over a two week period from July 11 to July 22.
Donations are still being accepted for back-to-school, including monetary donations to help with the cost of the coats. For more information or to make donation, please call 417-862-5509.
